Our Crops

Take a tour of the Virginia growing season, from the perennials of early spring and the last of the winter greens; to the peas and strawberries of the year's first warmth; to the abundance of summer’s tomatoes, squash, and beans. As summer winds down, autumn’s broccoli and winter squash appear, as do the cool season roots and greens. The snow may come, but we remain steady: cold storage holds the root crops, our mini tunnels fill with greens, and the tea garden provides herbs for our late winter hours and the books or friends we fill them with.

We grow over one hundred and fifty different kinds of vegetables, fruits, culinary & medicinal herbs, and flowers; and though that's a lot, we love each one.

Please note that some plants take years to yield -- asparagus, pears, rhubarb, and echinacea root, for instance -- and so while this farm warms up, we won't quite yet have them. These crops are the plan, best laid or not; but the mice might eat the seeds, the men might twist their ankles. We will do our best, but consider this list representative, neither guaranteed nor comprehensive.
